Simultaneous interpretation service is offered at congresses, meetings and seminars by using dedicated technical equipment and interpreter’s booths. In simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter is in a booth and simultaneously interprets what is being said into the target language. The audience listens to the interpreter through headphones by using the channels on the headphone. In order to provide proper simultaneous interpretation services, the equipment and the interpreter’s booth must meet certain standards. (TSE in-built and portable booth standards TS ISO 2603 and TS ISO 4043)

It is the type of interpretation service used when simultaneous interpretation equipment and interpreter’s booth cannot be used due to different reasons. In consecutive interpretation, the speaker speaks for a few sentences or minutes and the interpreter who takes notes during this time transfers what was said to the audience in the target language with the help of notes. Although consecutive interpretation is the most appropriate form of interpretation in some meetings, it takes twice as long as simultaneous interpreting.

This service is now used much more frequently due to the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdowns caused by it. The interpreter performs simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during online or hybrid meetings through his/her computer using a software that provides interpretation capabilities and a special headset from wherever he/she is located. In order to provide smooth-running and uninterrupted service during these meetings, technical equipment and Internet connection requirements must be complied with at the highest level by both the employer and the interpreters.

Bilateral interpretation service is offered as the interpreter accompanies delegations or individuals who need interpretation during their meetings at different times and places for the same mission. In bilateral interpretation, depending on the situation, if the number of listeners is only one or two people, whispering can be used as the mode of interpretation.
